This privacy policy applies to Hold my Hand, Switzerland.

We explain how we collect and process personal data. By this we mean all information that relates to a specific or identifiable person.


The protection of your personal data is important to us. Hold my Hand does not trade addresses, rents, sells or exchanges personal data and complies with applicable data protection regulations, in particular the Federal Data Protection Act and the General Data Protection Regulation.



By “processing your personal data” we mean the handling of your personal data. This includes, in particular, the collection, storage, management, use, transmission, disclosure or deletion of personal data.

If you provide us with personal data of other people (e.g. family members, work colleagues), please ensure that these people are aware of this data protection declaration and only provide us with their personal data if you are allowed to do so and if this personal data is correct.


When we collect personal data


We collect personal data in connection with our commitment to our work in Kenya.


We collect your personal data when we have contact with you or you visit our website. This particularly includes the following situations:

  • You support Hold my Hand with a donation
  • You sign up for a newsletter
  • You use or communicate with us or third parties via our website or social networks
  • You communicate with us by telephone, email, voice message, text message, picture message or video message
  • You support Hold my Hand with a supporting membership

What personal data we collect


We collect personal data that you provide to us or that is automatically generated or recorded manually as part of your contact with Hold my Hand.

  • Donation information (including donation date, place and time; type, quantity and value of the donation made; means of payment used; paying office; donation history)
  • Contact information (including complaints)
  • Data relating to visits to our websites, apps for mobile devices or offers on internet platforms, multimedia portals or social networks (including duration and frequency of visits, language and country preferences, information about browsers and computer operating systems, internet Protocol addresses, search terms and search results; ratings submitted);
  • Communications via telephone, email, voice message, text message, picture message, or video message.


Why do we process personal data?

We process personal data exclusively for the purpose stated when it was collected. In addition, we process personal data for fundraising purposes, to the extent permitted, and for activities for which we have obtained your consent:

  • Analysis of donation behavior for the purpose of fundraising
  • We statistically evaluate donation behavior


How we protect personal data and how long we keep it

We protect your personal data in accordance with the security standards set out in relevant laws such as the GDPR or the Swiss Federal Data Protection Act.


We process and store personal data for as long as it is necessary to fulfill our legal obligations or to process the purposes pursued. It is possible that personal data is stored for the period in which claims can be asserted against our association and insofar as we are otherwise legally obliged to do so or legitimate business interests require this (e.g. for evidentiary and documentation purposes).

Data that we need for your membership or communication with you (e.g. proof of donations) will be retained for as long as necessary to carry out the associated activities.


As soon as we no longer need personal data for the purposes mentioned above, it will generally be deleted or anonymized as far as possible.

What personal data do we pass on?

As part of our association activities and purposes, we also disclose personal data to third parties, to the extent permitted. Either because they process them for us, or because they demand them for their own purposes. These are in particular the following positions:

  • Service providers who are commissioned by us to process your data (e.g. banks, insurance companies, printing companies or payment platforms such as RaiseNow etc.);
  • Authorities, official bodies or courts;

The majority of these are based in Switzerland or in member states of the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA).

Data can be transferred to countries outside of Switzerland and the EU.

If we wish to transfer data to a country that does not have adequate legal data protection, we will ensure an adequate level of protection through appropriate contracts as required by law or rely on the legal exceptions. 

What rights do you have in relation to your personal data?

Within the scope of the data protection law applicable to you, you have the right to information, correction, deletion, restriction of data processing and to object to our data processing.


If the European General Data Protection Regulation applies, you also have the right to release personal data. We are obliged to enforce the restrictions provided for by law, for example if we are obliged to store or process certain data or need it in order to assert claims. If you incur any costs, we will inform you in advance.


In order for you to be able to exercise such rights, you must generally provide clear proof of your identity (e.g. by providing a copy of your ID if your identity is not otherwise clear or cannot be verified).

Every data subject also has the right to enforce their claims in court or to file a complaint with the responsible data protection authority. The responsible data protection authority in Switzerland is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

If you have agreed that we may process your personal data for certain purposes (e.g. if you signed up for a newsletter), we will process your personal data within the framework and based on this consent, unless we have another legal basis for the processing and we have one require such consent. Consent given can be revoked at any time, but this has no effect on data processing that has already taken place.
